Michael Jakumeit is a research assistant in the field of music theory/musicology at the University of Oldenburg.

He studied composition and compositional writing at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin and graduated with the grade "very good". This was followed by a doctorate in the subject of music theory under Prof Dr Oliver Korte at the Lübeck University of Music. In June 2020, he was honoured there with the thesis "Vom Aufbau einer Welt. Untersuchungen zur makrologischen Harmonik in den Kopfsätzen der ersten drei Symphonien von Gustav Mahler" in the subject of music theory. From 2020 to 2024, Michael Jakumeit was employed as a substitute professor of music theory at the Carl Maria von Weber Dresden University of Music and was responsible for the organisation of the department. From May 2024 to March 2025, he also held the position of Co-Speaker of the Fachgemeinschaft Hörerziehung/Gehörbildung, a section of the Gesellschaft für Musiktheorie. In October 2024, he took up his postdoctoral position at the University of Oldenburg and has been working on his habilitation project ever since. The focus is on construction mechanisms of images of femininity and masculinity in 20th and 21st century music theatre. In order to be able to approach this complex and wide-ranging subject area, a trans- and interdisciplinary approach is being pursued which, roughly summarised, combines performance studies, gender studies, performance analysis as well as compositional, linguistic, philosophical and aesthetic aspects.
