Christine Fornoff-Petrowski is a research assistant within the framework of the Carl von Ossietzky Young Researchers' Fellowship.
She studied music, history (B.A.) and musicology (M.A.) at the University of Oldenburg. She then worked there from 2013 as a research assistant at the Chair of Cultural History of Music (Prof. Dr Melanie Unseld) and from 2015 as a project member in the DFG project Couples and Partnership Concepts in 19th Century Music Culture (Head: Prof. Dr Melanie Unseld), and from 2016 to 2018 in the same project at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. As part of this research project, she completed her doctorate with a thesis on the discourse on artists' marriages in the long 19th century, which was also funded by scholarships from the Mariann Steegmann Foundation and the research centre Musik und Gender (fmg) Hannover. The dissertation Artist Marriage. A phenomenon of bourgeois music culture was published by Böhlau in 2021. In 2020, together with Dr Maren Bagge and Dr Anna Ricke, she founded the Postdoc Network Music and Genderwhich is funded by the Mariann Steegmann Foundation. Since January 2023, she has been a freelance researcher in the FWF project Families of Musicians - Constellations and Concepts (headed by Prof. Dr Melanie Unseld), she is responsible for the sub-project Marriage diaries d'Albert. From November 2020 to March 2025, she also worked as an advisor for the active recruitment of female professors and the support of staffing and appointment procedures at the Jade University of Applied Sciences Wilhelmshaven/Oldenburg/Elsfleth.
