It can't be overlooked and can no longer be ignored: The psychology wing of building A07 on the Haarentor campus is being renovated and extended - all while the building is still in use.
Over the next three weeks, the screed will be removed from the roof and the concrete on the façade will be repaired. "The concrete dates back to the 1960s and some cracks have formed. It will be given a protective layer so that it lasts another forty years," explains project manager Saskia Gertzen from the university's building management department. A new heat-insulating façade will also be installed.
In October, carpenters will put up the wooden frames for the new floor. This will create an additional 600 square metres. The costs amount to around 2.7 million euros. The university's growing space requirements make it necessary to create additional space - where possible, building management is endeavouring to extend existing buildings in the interests of sustainability. The new, second floor of the building wing should be ready for occupancy in summer 2022. In addition to the Department of Psychology at the School of Medicine, this will also be used by Student Services in future.
