Exploring their second degree subject has inspired eleven art students at the University of Oldenburg to create a diverse range of artistic works. Their exhibition “Zweifach” is on display until 26 January at the Lecture Theatre Centre (Haarentor campus, Building A14, Uhlhornsweg 86). The building is open on weekdays from 6.00 am to 8.00 pm.
The works were created during the last summer semester under the guidance of lecturer Natascha Kaßner from the Institute of Art and Visual Culture. The exhibits range from painting and object art to photography. In her works, for example, student Christina Bloem creates a link to classic fairy tales by incorporating keywords from well-known fairy tales into her objects. The world of the poem ‘Jabberwocky’ from Lewis Carroll’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ is also fairy-tale-like; Franziska Schäfermeier has created a light and airy series of watercolour paintings based on it.
In a painting by Kay Langfeldt, philosophical trees of knowledge grow into the blue sky. Other works by the students explore the priest’s blessing, thought and brain structures, syntax trees and books. Drawing on her second subject, ‘Material Culture’, Hendrikje Polkehn designed an innovative T-shirt, whilst Christina Seels explored chemical elements and Christina Smirnova crafted colourful matryoshka dolls from papier-mâché.
