The University of Groningen's Science Truck is on tour again. 60 Oldenburg students and a good 400 schoolchildren will be experimenting and researching in the rolling classroom on the topic of "The fascination of the Wadden Sea".
From 24 to 27 June, the truck will be stopping off at Oldenburg's Schlossplatz, before moving on to Varel and Jaderberg. The truck will open its doors to the interested public on the Schlossplatz on Sunday, 24 June from 13:00 to 18:00 and will provide information about marine research at the University of Oldenburg with a series of exhibits.
The campaign is the result of a co-operation between Oldenburg scientists Dr Holger Winkler, Institute of Chemistry and Biology of the Marine Environment (ICBM), and Prof. Dr Corinna Hößle, Institute of Biology, and colleagues from the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. The experiments on the Wadden Sea were prepared by Oldenburg student teachers specialising in the subject of biology. They are now being carried out in the truck together with pupils from various Oldenburg schools. The students and pupils will learn about the uniqueness and diversity of the Wadden Sea, as well as the dangers and protective measures. The students also have the opportunity to learn how to teach content in practice. The students will present the experiments to the public at the Haupt- und Realschule in Varel on Thursday, 28 June from 14:00 to 16:00.
