  • "Nutrition is an issue that affects everyone" - Alexandra Baumkötter, Coordinator of Health Management at the university.

Uni is(s)t healthy

How do I eat healthily? And what regional foods are available? Questions like these are the focus of the University's Health Day, which takes place on 9 July in the Mensa foyer. Coordinator Alexandra Baumkötter talks about the concept and a cookbook with favourite recipes from university members.

How do I eat healthily? And what regional foods are available? Questions like these are the focus of the University's Health Day, which takes place on 9 July in the Mensa foyer. Coordinator Alexandra Baumkötter talks about the concept and a cookbook with favourite recipes from university members.

QUESTION: The motto of the Health Day is "Uni is(s)t gut". So it's all about nutrition?

BAUMKÖTTER: Nutrition is a topic that concerns everyone. Everyone thinks about their diet and presumably also knows what good nutrition means. However, there are many different theories and concepts about nutrition floating around the world. That's why we want to shed light on the subject at the Health Day and provide information about good and healthy nutrition.

QUESTION: And how do you do that?

BAUMKÖTTER: Among other things, we look at the question of which regional and seasonal foods are available? Slowfood Oldenburg, for example, will be presenting regional products at the health market in the cafeteria foyer. The student initiative sneep - Student Network for Ethics in Economics and Practice - is also campaigning in favour of regionally produced food. Employees from the Botanical Garden will also be offering a flavour trail with tropical fruits. The consumer advice centre will also be on site. It is organising an information quiz on food labelling and providing information on lactose and gluten intolerance.

QUESTION: Why should I, as a healthy person who also eats consciously, go to the Health Day?

BAUMKÖTTER: Because it never hurts to take a closer look at your health and inform yourself. And you will certainly discover new tips and tricks for a healthy diet - both at home and at university. The university's occupational safety and university sports organisations will also be presenting themselves. The student union offers healthy smoothies, and at the health insurance stands you can have free medical checks and have your blood sugar level or body mass index determined.

QUESTION: There will also be a cookbook containing the university members' favourite recipes?

BAUMKÖTTER: There is a group of students and employees who planned the Health Day together. The group came up with the idea of a cookbook containing the favourite recipes of university members. 72 people took part in the campaign. The recipes are now available to all members of the university on the intranet. And what's special: A jury has chosen a dish that will be on the canteen menu on Health Day - there will be warm goat camembert on a bed of rocket.
