Study-related stays abroad Dutch Studies
The examination regulations for the Master of Education require a study-related stay abroad of at least three months in the case of a modern foreign language. If students have chosen two foreign languages, one stay abroad is sufficient. The Dutch Studies programme has adopted the following criteria:
1. the stay abroad must take place in a place where the student has extensive contact with Dutch-speaking culture. This can be in one of the following situations, for example:
- Educational institution (school/university)
Study/research project
Employment as a teacher abroad
Research projects (if teamwork is guaranteed) - Private business
Working in a team
Internships (publishers, companies, schools, kindergartens, etc.)
Au pair in a Dutch-speaking family - Social organisations
Internships
Students are advised to seek advice from the study abroad advisor prior to their stay abroad to ensure that the planned stay meets the criteria.
2. duration and timing:
The 3 months can be split into two 6-week stays for special reasons upon prior proposal to the subject's study abroad advisor.
The stay abroad should be completed during the BA or M. Ed, or in between. The subject advisor will decide on the exemption or equivalence of other experiences (e.g. at least one year of school attendance in the Netherlands after the age of 12 or similar) on a reasoned proposal.
3. cases of hardship
There is a hardship provision. In such cases (e.g. illness, etc.), a proposal for hardship must be submitted to the Examinations Office. A comparable examination performance will then be determined by the subject of Dutch Studies and the Examinations Office.
4. submission to the Examinations Office
The student submits proof of the stay abroad to the academic advisor. The advisor fills out a corresponding MM certificate confirming that the student has fulfilled the conditions. The student submits copies of the certificates (countersigned by the academic advisor) to the Examinations Office.
The academic advisor for stays abroad in the Master's programme is Prof. Dr. Esther Ruigendijk.
