News from the Centre of Excellence PEChange

The PEChange Centre of Excellence is part of the HdN joint project ‘Action Area D – Strengthening Digital Capabilities in Higher Education Administration’ (Action Areas | HdN Digital).

PEChange supports higher education institutions in Lower Saxony in empowering staff to adopt a critical, reflective, creative and forward-looking approach to the challenges of digital transformation.

The aim of the PEChange Centre of Excellence is to support higher education institutions in Lower Saxony in their digital transformation in the areas of staff development and change management, particularly in response to emerging needs arising from the implementation of the ERP, CaMs and ECM projects.

Programmes for skills development (Future Skills) and for supporting staff through change are designed and made available via the Inter-University Further Education Programme (HüW). Through workshops and advisory sessions, key influencers are empowered to involve staff in a participatory manner and to support them in developing digital literacy. PEChange coordinates collaboration between higher education institutions in Lower Saxony on these topics to develop networking structures.

Work Package 1: Process and Project Management

Work Package 1 focuses on key tools for managing digitalisation and change initiatives. The aim is to work with universities in Lower Saxony to develop a common understanding of process and project management as tools for steering change initiatives. In addition, the aim is to jointly develop milestones that can support the implementation of these tools at the universities.

Work Package 2: Formulation of competence standards and qualification pathways

Work Package 2 focuses on defining the skills required for digital transformation and on formulating digital competence standards for various roles and areas of responsibility within university administration. In addition, proposals for career development pathways are being developed to support higher education institutions in Lower Saxony with staff recruitment and development.

Work Package 3: Provision of a skills portfolio

Work Package 3 involves the development and provision of key training programmes for digital transformation as part of the Inter-University Further Education (HüW) programme. This includes the launch and hosting of a learning management system (LMS) that provides self-study modules for the HüW partner universities.

Work Package 4: Supporting the transformation, leadership during the transformation

The aim of Work Package 4 is to support higher education institutions in Lower Saxony with regard to acceptance and conflict mediation in the context of digital transformation. It also aims to foster staff’s willingness to embrace change. To this end, needs-based change management and leadership programmes will be developed for managers and project leaders involved in digitalisation initiatives.

Working groups of the PEChange Centre of Excellence

As part of the PEChange Centre of Excellence, the ‘Competence Development Working Group’ and the ‘Change Management Working Group’ were established. The working groups support thematic collaboration between universities in Lower Saxony and ensure that the objectives of the Centre of Excellence are implemented appropriately for all universities in the HdN network.
Whilst the “Competence Development Working Group” focuses on topics from Work Packages 2 and 3, the “Change Management Working Group” addresses aspects of Work Packages 1 and 4.
