The research centre pursues a dual objective. On the one hand, it promotes a scholarly examination of the work of Karl Marx that is not already predetermined by political interests and ideological convictions. On the other hand, it is dedicated to the currently increasing endeavours to continue Marx's writings and approaches in a critical and productive manner. Following and in confrontation with Marx, central problems of modern capitalist society and their effects on people's relationship to the world and to themselves are analysed. The research centre regularly offers courses in both areas, organises public lectures and workshops and supports research projects such as dissertations.
