PPRE welcomed 36 new international students in October ‘24 to take up their Master studies in the field of Renewable Energies at University of Oldenburg: overall 31 students joined the Sustainable Renewable Energy Technologies (SuRE) and 5 the European Renewable Energy (EMRE) Master Programme.
The new PPRE-students stem from 22 different countries, the majority from Asia (14) followed by Africa (8), LatAm (6), Europe (5) and MENA (3). With a total of 11 women, the female quota is over 30%.
The two intensive welcome and introduction weeks were completed with the well-established Wind Energy Excursion, where students got to know each other better and visited different Wind Energy facilities in the North-West of Germany and along the Northsea-Coastline, like
- a traditional 138-year old wind mill still in operation grinding corn
- Germany’s biggest Wind Turbine Manufacturer ENERCON
- a 50 MW wind farm, which is in operation for 21 years already and where students had the chance to climb up to the nacelle of one turbine in 65 m height
- a traditional and picturesque harbour village
- and finally, a typical local farmer, who has 270 cows and is doing agriculture (crops). Besides he runs a 75 kW Biogas-farm, two small WECs (30 kW) and a grid-connected PV-farm (167 kW), why he calls himself ‘Energy Farmer’.
The regular lectures started on October 14th and most students were properly settled and well prepared to take up their Master-studies in Oldenburg. Only two students arrived late, but had the chance the follow all lectures online during first weeks.
By early November, all students finally made in to Oldenburg in person and had the chance to join the 2nd PPRE alumni-students gathering in Oldenburg.
