Tasks of the ombudspersons

The ombudspersons of the University of Oldenburg have the following
tasks (§ 13 sentence 1 GwP-O):

  1. As persons of trust, they advise those members and affiliates of the University of Oldenburg who inform them of suspected
academic misconduct. They clarify, if necessary in co-operation with the
Commission for Good Academic Practice, the principles of good academic
    practice.
  2. They independently take up relevant information of which they become directly or indirectly
    aware.
  3. They examine whether the allegation appears plausible in terms of its specificity and significance as well as possible
motives and clarify whether the allegation can be dispelled or whether the
conflict can be resolved following mediation.
  4. If there are sufficient factual indications of academic
misconduct, they inform the bodies and committees responsible for penalisation (such as those of the
School or the Commission for Good Academic Practice). If the competence of the
Commission for Good Academic Practice to penalise academic
misconduct in accordance with Section 15 is justified (allegations of academic misconduct by academics working at
University), they shall apply to conduct the
preliminary review procedure in accordance with Section 19 of these regulations.
  5. In accordance with Section 14 (6), they are members of the
Commission for Good Academic Practice in an advisory capacity.
  6. After the conclusion of an investigation or procedure, they supervise the (co-)affected
and informing persons in accordance with § 22 of these regulations.
  7. They are obliged to document their actions, taking into account the protection of the privacy of
    informants and affected persons.
  8. In proceedings of collaborative institutions in which an external co-op ombudsperson
acts in accordance with Section 12 (5), the ombudsperson shall first submit the case to a
university ombudsperson for review and advice after unsuccessful mediation before submitting the case to the Commission for Good Academic Practice in accordance with Section 15 (
    2).
