Modelling, Estimation, and Control using Set-Based Methods: Theory and Applications

April 20-24, 2026

The spring school Set4MOST will take place at the Department of Computing Science at the Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg, Germany. After a first successful event at Centrale Lille in February 2024, we are happy to announce the second edition of the winter/spring school series on „Modelling, Estimation, and Control using Set-Based Methods”.

All the courses will be presented in English.

All participants are responsible for planning and paying for their stay in Oldenburg. Lunch may be offered but this remains to be confirmed.

Objective

The objective of this spring school is to provide a comprehensive introduction to set-based methods, particularly interval-based approaches, spanning from theoretical foundations to their applications in various problem domains such as parameter identification, state estimation, and robust control.

The aim is to equip attendees with the knowledge and skills needed to apply set-based methods effectively in their research, engineering, or scientific work, while also promoting these methods as valuable tools in addressing complex and uncertain systems.

The training will be led by researchers actively involved in this field, who will bring their own academic and industrial expertise. The format of the training will be intentionally diverse, combining both lectures and practical workshops where participants will have the opportunity to use open-source tools to solve real-world problems.

Target Audience

The school is mainly intended for PhD students and early-career researchers demonstrating an interest in the field of set-based methods. They must submit a scientific CV that shows an academic background enabling them to follow the content of the event.

Tentative Program

Besides scientific presentations and workshop-oriented teaching, Set4MOST will include poster sessions in which the attending PhD students present their scientific results in smaller groups with the speakers organizing Set4MOST.

Confirmed Speakers:

  1. Ekaterina Auer (University of Applied Sciences, Wismar, Germany): Parallelization of Interval Methods via the Use of GPUs
  2. Sara Ifqir (Centrale Lille, France): Interval State Estimation
  3. Vicenç Puig (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Barcelona, Spain): Set-Based Approaches for Diagnosis and Fault-Tolerant Control
  4. Tarek Raissi (CNAM, Paris, France): Robust State and Parameter Estimation under Bounded Uncertainties
  5. Andreas Rauh (Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg, Oldenburg, Germany): Interval Methods for Robust Control
  6. Nathalie Revol (ENS Lyon, France): Introduction to interval arithmetic and interval analysis
  7. Simon Rohou (ENSTA, Brest, France): Contractors for Set-Membership State Estimation
  8. Joris Tillet (ENSTA, Paris, France): Introduction to Interval Analysis
