Dietrich Boles

Dr.-Ing. Dietrich Boles is a research assistant at the Department of Computer Science at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg. He received his doctorate at the University of Oldenburg in 2002 and his diploma in computer science in 1994.

His research interests are especially the development of concepts and tools for programming education. The best known result of his activities is the Java-Hamster-Model, which offers beginners a playful introduction to programming and is used in many schools and other educational institutions in the German-speaking world.

Over the past 30 years, Dietrich Boles has worked on numerous projects in the fields of multimedia applications, internet technologies, digital libraries, e-commerce and e-learning.

In teaching, Dietrich Boles has been responsible for the programming training of students in the computer science courses at the University of Oldenburg since 1994. He was responsible for the Java programming course for more than 20 years. Currently, he offers special practical courses in the field of Java, Android and web programming.
