S/Ü: Key Concepts in Cultural Studies
Prof. Dr. Martin Butler/ Dr. Julius Greve/ PD Dr. Michaela Keck/ Dr. Christian Lassen/ N.N.
Course Description:
The course complements the lecture “Historical Contexts and Theoretical Concepts”. Both the lecture and the accompanying course familiarize students with traditions, current debates, trends, and perspectives in the field of Cultural Studies and, in so doing, introduce them to central categories necessary for a close examination of cultural forms of expression in their specific historical environments. While the lecture focuses on approaches to and problems of the periodization of the cultural history of the Anglophone world and thus establishes the framework for the contextualization of cultural forms of expression, the complementary course introduces a set of key terms and concepts (such as 'culture', 'representation', 'discourse', 'identity' or 'media') and provides room to apply and critically reflect on the newly acquired theoretical and methodological ‘toolkit’ for the analysis of culture.
Please buy and read/watch the following texts:
