Since the 2023 summer semester, I have been studying Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship whilst working. For me, ‘whilst working’ means that, as an IHK consultant for innovation and the environment, I advise companies. I am also the managing director of LoveLights Emden. My wife and I founded the company in 2019.

After completing my Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, I was determined to do a Master’s degree. But first, I wanted to kick-start my career. The fact that I’m now studying alongside my job brings tangible benefits: newly acquired knowledge can be put to immediate use. Even in the very first module, Human Resource Management, I was able to learn about and implement innovative approaches to recruitment. This enabled me to give practical advice to companies I had the opportunity to get to know during the module.

Practical know-how
I can also apply what I’ve learnt in my own company. In the Strategic Management module, I analysed my own company together with a fellow student. Thanks to the structured approach, I was able to identify market potential more accurately than before and adapt the business strategy accordingly. The Controlling module was also relevant to real-world practice.

Broadening my horizons and network
My commitment to and interest in entrepreneurship have grown as a result of my studies. Through interviews for the modules and intensive research work, I have become familiar with both the academic and practical sides – for example, in the ‘Start-up Economics’ module, we delved deep into the regional start-up scene. After just one year at C3L, I’ve built up a strong professional network and gained valuable experience.

Ready for leadership roles
My overall impression is extremely positive: the programme makes it possible to balance professional and personal commitments. It gives me insights into the world of entrepreneurship that I would not otherwise have gained.
