Fundamentals of Economics

Economic theory illustrated in an everyday context

The module provides an overview of elementary topics in Economics. It covers basic concepts of economic theory, interdependence and trade, the functioning and efficiency of markets as well as the economic cycle and the national product. The module also addresses market failure and state activity as well as the behaviour of companies in differently structured markets. Central approaches are illustrated using everyday examples.
With globalisation, digitalisation and climate protection, the module also addresses three major economic policy issues of our time. Among other things, it deals with long-term trends in the cross-border division of labour, modern value chains, platform economies and micro- and macroeconomic aspects of the transformation towards climate neutrality.
