"Legalisation - and then? An approach to the context-structured integration of drug prevention and cannabinoid education in the subject of chemistry" by Elisabeth Dietel.
Abstract:
A declining interest in chemistry can be counteracted by visiting extracurricular places of learning. Topics with current relevance to everyday life, e.g. cannabinoids, especially in the context of the new cannabis law, are of great interest to young people. However, the generally open attitude of young people towards psychoactive drugs such as cannabis also results in the potential for abuse and addiction. By using this exciting context, it is possible to promote interest in chemistry and, on the other hand, to carry out health education and prevention work with regard to their own consumer behaviour. Existing materials often incorporate drugs and drug prevention aspects without linking them to chemical content. With the learning set presented here, the chemistry of cannabinoids is embedded in social and personal contexts. In flexible learning paths, associated experiments with the model substance CBD are offered in the student laboratory. Initial perspectives from piloting experiences with students and teachers are reflected upon. Based on the experience gained, conclusions can be drawn for the further development of materials for linking scientific skills development and drug prevention.
