Supplementary programme "Fundamentals of the welfare state, social and family law"
Supplementary programme
The supplementary programme ‘Fundamentals of the Welfare State, Social and Family Law’ is aimed at international academics who wish to complete, on a needs-based basis, the law module required as part of the equivalence assessment process for degrees obtained abroad.
Aim
During both the winter and summer semesters, a seminar will be held in each term to jointly explore and understand the fundamentals of the German welfare state, social law and family law. In the summer semester, a more detailed distinction will be made between the legal foundations of social work and early years education.
During the practical placement, the primary focus is on gaining a precise understanding of legally-based educational practice within a social work or early years education setting (e.g. the procedure to follow where there is a suspicion that a child’s welfare is at risk, or the preparation of case reports), to test them out for oneself and to reflect on them.
Format
The module content of the supplementary programme is delivered in two modules (totalling 180 teaching hours + 200 practical hours) in the form of three face-to-face blocks per semester. Between the face-to-face blocks, weekly webinars (online seminars) take place – including during the practical phase – to deliver specialist content and to provide support with the preparation of a practical report. In addition, online assignments for self-study are made available via a learning platform.
Qualification
Upon successful completion of the supplementary programme, graduates receive a certificate from the University of Oldenburg. The skills, qualifications and examination results achieved are clearly documented in a Diploma Supplement for German social work and education providers, as well as for German higher education institutions and public authorities. 18 credit points (ECTS) are awarded upon successful completion.
