About us

As a research group within Oldenburg’s Energy Informatics, we are driven by questions related to future post-fossil energy systems, from the perspective of digitalization. We work closely with partners from academia and industry to address fundamental research questions on the one hand, and to tackle practical, real-world problems with our ideas on the other. In teaching, we integrate these topics into the German- and English-language degree programs of the Department of Computer Science, particularly in the Master’s program “Digitalized Energy Systems”.

Your tasks

You will conduct research within the Digitalized Energy Systems division in the context of FAIR energy systems research. In this context, you will, for example, define, extract, and aggregate meaningful metadata for research software (in energy research) and develop REST APIs as well as web interfaces. This role combines software development and research tasks and offers practical experience in both technical implementation and analytical problem-solving.

Your profile

  • Enrolled in a Master’s programme in Computing Science, Business Informatics, Engineering or related fields
  • Good written and spoken English
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Punctuality and a sense of responsibility
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Structured and independent working style
  • Good programming skills and experience in object-oriented programming
  • High willingness to learn

Requirements / Entry criteria

  • Support in the design, development and maintenance of software applications (frontend and backend)
  • Application of object-oriented programming principles to create scalable and maintainable software
  • Support for ongoing research activities, including literature reviews, data collection and analysis
  • Collaboration with team members on technical problem-solving and debugging
  • Participation in prototyping, testing, and documentation of software solutions
  • Attending team meetings and providing technical input as required

Desirable / Advantageous

Due to the project’s focus on metadata and FAIR principles in energy systems research, prior knowledge in the field of energy systems research or energy informatics, as well as experience or familiarity with selected topics related to research software metadata and metadata schemas, are considered an advantage.

We offer

  • An exciting and growing environment within the Open Science context
  • Support and mentoring from experienced researchers
  • Relevant areas of work in the field of energy informatics
  • A motivated team with a strong willingness to exchange ideas and engage in discussion
  • Flexible working hours and the possibility of long-term collaboration (e.g. as part of a final thesis).
