The range of food products that appear to be specifically produced and marketed for children is growing. The marketing is sophisticated and reaches both children and parents through various media channels. Added to this are dietary trends and conflicting advice on nutrition, which leave parents and carers feeling uncertain and with unanswered questions. This talk provides an insight into the current nutritional situation of children and aims to help you spot sugar-laden foods and assess the wide range of food on offer. It will also highlight alternatives and practical ways to achieve a balanced diet, backed by scientifically sound nutritional recommendations. Of course, food should promote good health, but it should also be fun and enjoyable – especially when shared as a family! Topics • Children’s nutrition – aspiration and reality • Sugar • Children’s food • A comparison of packed lunches • Tips and ideas
