- In 2015, the UNESCO Global Action Programme on Education for Sustainable Development was adopted by the United Nations.
- The Global Action Programme covers all three dimensions of sustainability. Accordingly, ESD empowers learners to make informed decisions and act responsibly to protect the environment, create a sustainable economy and a just society for current and future generations while respecting cultural diversity.

- The National Action Plan on Education for Sustainable Development was adopted for Germany on 20 June 2017. This contains specific recommendations for the dissemination of education for sustainable development
- In 2015, the 2nd edition of the Framework for Global Development Education in Education for Sustainable Development was also published:
