The Energy Education Centre was founded in 2009 and expanded in 2017 to become the Energy and Sustainability Education Centre (AENB). Its activities support the sustainability focus of the University of Oldenburg.

It is an association of didactic and educational professorships under the umbrella of the Didactic Centre (DiZ) and with the participation of the Centre of Excellence for Teacher Training, the Oldenburg Training Centre (OFZ).
This network is committed to strengthening and anchoring energy and sustainability education in school practice and in university teacher training. It comprises the didactics of the subjects of Biology, Chemistry, History, Computing Science, Economics Education, Physics, Sachunterricht, Technology, Business Education and General Teaching-Learning Research.

The centre was founded as part of the project "Education for sustainable energy supply and use".
