Thematic workshops
Thematic workshops
- OSCE, internships, exams and life "on the side" -
Studying medicine is challenging – not just academically, but also in terms of organisation and emotionally. Alongside OSCE exams, written exams, block placements, clinical placements and study periods, the question often arises: how do you actually manage to stay true to yourself throughout all this?
Our workshops are designed to address precisely this: we create a space for discussion, advice and mutual support, on an equal footing. Without the pressure to perform, but with genuine added value.
Series of workshops: Resilience
Resilience means more than just ‘being strong’: it helps us to remain capable of taking action even in challenging situations, to draw on our own resources and to stand up for ourselves effectively. In this series of workshops, we’ll explore resilience from various perspectives, ranging from internal thought patterns and self-doubt, through self-assertion and setting boundaries, to the physical and neurobiological links between stress and resilience.
The series invites you to reflect on your own patterns, discover new ways of acting, and gain a holistic understanding of resilience so that you can strengthen it in your everyday life.
We will not limit ourselves to theory but will also practise concrete ways of building up our own resilience so that we can apply it during our studies and in our future daily work as doctors.
Workshop topics:
- Introduction
- Competence rather than mental chatter – breaking free from imposter syndrome
- Speaking up! – Assertiveness and setting your own boundaries
- How does resistance manifest itself in the body? – A psychoneuroimmunological perspective
Examinations
It feels as though the first module has only just begun, and yet the first module examination is already just around the corner.
What’s the best way to prepare for exams?
How do I cope with the sheer volume of material?
Social pressure: how can I minimise comparing my own learning and achievements with others’ – or rather, how do I deal with such comparisons and how should I put them into perspective?
Focusing on the topics of module examinations and studying, this session aims to provide a good overview of what is really necessary to pass an examination.
Work shadowing
The first work shadowing usually comes sooner than you would like; after about 10 weeks of study.
In this workshop, we will share what our work shadowing sessions were like, answer questions and give tips on how to pass the first week of work shadowing well and take away as much as possible.
OSCE's
How do I survive my first OSCEs?
The first OSCEs are new and exciting, that much is clear!
How do you get through this time relaxed and well without going crazy or studying for days on end?
Our info session will be all about this; we will share our experiences and will be happy to answer your questions. For all those who didn't make it to the meeting, you can find the most important information at a glance in the PDF.
Clinical traineeship
Clinical placement – what next?!
Your first clinical placement is coming up, and with it come lots of questions:
What’s expected of me? What skills should I have? How do I address doctors or nursing staff?
Whether it’s a hospital ward or a doctor’s surgery, getting started can be challenging. This is exactly where our peer-to-peer workshop comes in.
In a relaxed atmosphere, students from later semesters share honest insights into their experiences: what went well, what was awkward, and what would they have liked to know beforehand?
Workshop topics:
How do I find a good clinical placement?
What should I know from a professional point of view – and what shouldn’t I?
Dealing with uncertainty, stress and hierarchies
What am I allowed to do, and what should I avoid?
Practical tips: clothing, study aids & behaviour
What should I do if things aren’t going well?
Aim:
Greater confidence, less stress and a more realistic picture of how to get off to a good start on your clinical placement. No perfect checklists, just honest, practical advice.

Brain overload - How do I sort out my chaos?
“Brain Overload – How do I sort out my chaos?”
Studying medicine is demanding: anatomy, clinical work, exams, clinical placements – and a normal life to fit in between. No wonder your head sometimes feels like an overflowing desk: thoughts are flying around, to-do lists are piling up, and stress is knocking at the door.
What can you expect?
In this interactive workshop, we’ll talk openly about the typical pressures of medical school and share our experiences. We’ll show you simple, practical methods for coping with mental overload and preventing stress.
For all medical students – whether in pre-clinical or clinical years – who recognise that feeling when everything becomes ‘too much’. You don’t need any prior knowledge, just an open mind and perhaps a pen.
Aim:
To clear your head. To gain clarity. To find tools to sort through the chaos and learn not just how to cope, but also how to stay healthy whilst doing so.
Learning techniques
Spaced repetition, active recall or the Pomodoro technique - many people have heard of these learning strategies, but sometimes learning still doesn't work out as desired. Why is that? Because everyone learns differently! Our interactive "Learning to learn" workshop is all about this: we analyse your learning biographies, find out what works for you and develop suitable strategies. If you would like some ideas in advance, you can find out more here . We look forward to seeing you!
