From guest students for guest students
The activities listed here are organised and designed independently by our guest students. You can find the relevant information and contact details for all activities here.
Take the opportunity to make new contacts within the guest student body, exchange ideas with other participants and get active together. Whether at regular meetings, thematic discussions, joint excursions or other initiatives - this is where encounters, commonalities and activities are created that go beyond just attending lectures or seminars.
Border contacts on site - a German-Dutch lecture series
This series of events has been running for more than 20 years, featuring lectures covering a wide range of subjects: topics discussed include literary studies, economics, history, environmental and natural sciences, cultural studies, theology and philosophy. For many years, the ‘Grenzkontakte’ were organised in co-operation between Carl von Ossietzky University and the University of Groningen; they are now being continued on the initiative of the group of guest students.
The aim was, and still is, to bring together guest students from the Oldenburg and Groningen regions and to encourage cross-border exchange. Building on the varied lecture topics, the series facilitates direct discussion amongst participants, extending to exchanges on current political issues in north-western Europe. We expect those interested to attend the entire lecture series. Cultural similarities and differences between the Dutch provinces and the north-western region of Lower Saxony are explored. Here, too, the aim is to make the most of valuable opportunities for mutual understanding through direct encounters within a culture of open dialogue.
The lectures will be held in German, this time in Oldenburg, Groningen and Leer. Participants are responsible for organising their own travel to the venues. A detailed programme with precise venue information will be sent out in good time before the start of the lecture series.
This programme, organised by guest students, is open to all guest students interested in German-Dutch contacts. It complements the C3L’s programme and is not covered by the standard tuition fee.

Exchange meeting for guest students
Dear guest students,
To enable us to get to know one another, network and exchange ideas outside of lectures and seminars, some of us guest students have set up a WhatsApp group and a Signal group. These groups make it easy to organise meet-ups and joint activities such as trips to the cinema, museums or the theatre, walks, cycle rides and much more. Participation is, of course, voluntary and non-binding – there’s no pressure to join in. Anyone interested in joining one of the groups is welcome to get in touch with:
Uta Wacker

Social meet-ups
We’d also like to draw your attention to our regular social meet-ups. We meet every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month from 6.00 pm at Havanna (Pferdemarkt, Oldenburg). The same applies here: it’s all about whatever takes your fancy, with no pressure! Just pop in!
We look forward to seeing some new faces!
