The guest student programme enables anyone who is interested, regardless of whether they hold a university entrance qualification, school-leaving certificate or age, to participate in the academic life of the university. As a guest student, you can choose from over 600 courses courses across various disciplines at the University of Oldenburg, thereby gaining an insight into the latest findings from research and teaching. Furthermore, in individual cases, it is possible – with the lecturer’s consent – to attend courses that are not initially open to guest students. These can be found in the general course catalogue.

In addition, we have a range of other activities on offer for you:
- We kick off each semester with our semester opening event, to which all guest students and anyone else interested are warmly invited.
- Under ‘Offers for Newcomers’ you’ll find events, seminars and guided tours organised specifically for new guest students to help them settle into university life.
- The “Series of Philosophy Lectures” is a co-operation between the Institute of Philosophy and the C3L – Centre for Lifelong Learning at the University of Oldenburg, in collaboration with the Karl Jaspers Society.
- Under Visiting Students for Visiting Students you will find events organised on the initiative of the visiting students themselves
- In the “Semester-long Course Programme” lists seminars that specifically address the interests of older adults and are intended to complement the existing range of courses available to guest students. You do not need to be a guest student to take part.
- The workshop “‘Retirement at Last! Preparing for the Great Freedom’” is aimed at people who are about to transition into retirement or are currently in that phase of life. Guest student status is not required to take part.
By the way: once enrolled, guest students also have access to other university facilities. They can use the canteens, libraries and the wide range of activities offered by the university sports programme .
