Department of Internal Medicine - Cardiology
The University Clinic for Internal Medicine - Cardiology at Oldenburg Hospital is part of the Oldenburg Integrated Cardiovascular Centre and a member of the Herz-Kreislaufverbund Weser-Ems foundation. In 2017, 5,191 patients were treated here.
The range of services includes the treatment of all cardiovascular diseases, including three cardiac catheterisation labs and four echo labs. The clinic also has an electropyhsiology department specialising in cardiac arrhythmias. Stent implantations are also carried out on the neck vessels and aorta as well as the insertion of closure systems for congenital heart defects.
In addition to the University Clinic for Internal Medicine - Cardiology, the Cardiovascular Centre Oldenburg also includes four other specialist clinics. Cardiovascular diseases are diagnosed and treated here, including rehabilitation at the Oldenburg Rehabilitation Centre.

- Development and progression of arteriosclerotic processes in coronaries
- Cellular reactions to different plaque compositions
- Cellular repair mechanisms in plaque ruptures and erosions
- Intracoronary imaging and flow determination for the evaluation of different plaque morphologies
- Development of local therapy methods for the initiation of intracoronary repair processes
Clinic:
- Technical co-development of catheter-inserted implantable valve prostheses
- Correlation between intracoronary imaging and flow determination
- Detection of parameters for prospective assessment of TAVI procedures
- New drug therapy concepts for diastolic and systolic heart failure
