Prof Dr Cyrus Khandanpour
Prof. Dr Cyrus Khandanpour is a professorship for internal medicine with a focus on oncology and haematology at the University Medicine Oldenburg (UMO) and takes over the management of the University Clinic for Internal Medicine - Oncology and Haematology at Klinikum Oldenburg. Previously, he was Professor of Translational Cancer Research at the University of Lübeck and Deputy Director of the Department of Haematology/Oncology at the University Medical Centre Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH).
Khandanpour studied medicine at the Universities of Duisburg-Essen and Leicester (UK). After completing his doctorate, scientific and medical training and habilitation in Essen and Montreal (Canada), he moved to Münster University Hospital, where he was appointed Associate Professor. He worked at the UKSH from 2022.
Cyrus Khandanpour researches precision oncology approaches, i.e. personalised therapies that target tumour cells and also include surrounding cells that promote tumour growth. The doctor's goal is to make innovative therapeutic approaches from research available to patients more quickly. One focus is on cancer patients who have not responded to previous therapies. He and his team are developing combination therapies for them.
