Digital media
How do we orientate ourselves in digital and physical spaces? What forms of encounters arise there - and how do digital interventions change our perception of real space?
In this area, we deal with the interweaving of analogue and digital media. The aim is to combine artistic and creative skills with technical knowledge and thus promote an experimental and reflective approach to different media.
Students learn to explore both virtual and real spaces artistically. Common internet platforms and app tools as well as hardware and software solutions are used.
However, the content-related questions are always at the centre: Students develop their own projects, which can incorporate both digital and analogue forms of expression - from performances in virtual game worlds to classic artistic installations.
In addition, the examination of contemporary artistic positions is an essential part of the programme. Visits to exhibitions and discussions of current works provide a framework for students to further develop their own ideas, critically reflect on them and place them in a wider context.
The aim is for students to develop an independent artistic approach that combines technical skills with creative practice and theoretical reflection.
The following workshops belong to the Digital Media department:
Media laboratory - The laboratory offers space for student working groups, seminar-related work as well as final and research projects.
Technology lending - The lending service is available to all students of the Institute of Art and Visual Culture.
