Breaks
- We recommend a break of 5 to 10 minutes every hour or so, which can also be used for ventilation.
- For all-day events, a sufficiently long lunch break should be taken (approx. 30 to 60 minutes), during which time a walk in the fresh air can be taken, for example.
- A digital clock can be used to display the remaining break time.
Attention and variety
- Distractions should be minimised (e.g. close doors, mute mobile phone and put aside, close email program).
- Changes in position can serve to provide variety (e.g. use a height-adjustable desk, stand up, stretch, give a speech standing up).
Exercise, nutrition and relaxation
- Exercise in between or short stretching exercises (pdf) are helpful for a balance.
- The moving break videos from university sports can be played at the start of the break.
- Exercises to relax the eyes (pdf) serve as short breaks.
- Sufficient fluids (e.g. water, unsweetened teas) and a healthy diet promote concentration.
