Audiology Initiative Lower Saxony projects make progress

End of project 5 - Genetics

The aim of project 5 is to improve the differential diagnosis of sensorineural hearing loss in combination with the search for mutations in deafness-associated genes. The focus of the project work in the final phase of funding is on audiological phenotyping, data analysis and molecular genetic investigations. So far, 52 patients are taking part in the study, including families with several affected individuals. In the meantime, patient referrals have been received throughout Germany, e.g. through a presentation at the ADANO autumn conference on 30 September 2011 in Regensburg. However, further active patient recruitment is no longer being pursued in view of the imminent conclusion of the project. The aim is now to finalise the measurement protocol and carry out sequencing in the patients who have been enrolled.
