Human genetic information is stored in ~ 20,000 genes. In our genetic counselling, we try to narrow down the genes that could be the cause of your symptoms on the basis of a discussion, a physical examination if necessary and with the help of your previous findings. We always take a medical family history spanning three generations. You are the centre of attention. The discussion should enable you to decide whether you would like genetic testing. We try to take all relevant aspects into account. This includes, for example, prevention, i.e. preventing or recognising diseases at an early stage, your psychosocial situation, insurance-related and legal aspects. Increasingly, there are also direct therapeutic consequences of genetic testing, e.g. for some cancers.

We offer office hours for all questions relating to human genetics. Our work focuses in particular on heart disease (cardiogenetics) and tumour diseases. In our office hours, we also deal with congenital syndromes, developmental delays in children, genetic connective tissue diseases, neurogenetic diseases and all other medical genetics issues. As genetics focusses on diseases that occur more frequently within a family, we naturally also offer assistance if there is a desire to have children.
