The Institute of Music is an academic institution of School III - School of Linguistics and Cultural Studies at the University of Oldenburg. The Institute is managed by the Institute Council and its Executive Board (= Institute Director).
Institute council
The Institute is managed by the Institute Council, which consists of four members of the professors' group and one representative each from the staff group, the MTV group and the student group. It is elected by the institute's plenary assembly separately by status group. The institute council meets every four weeks. The meetings are open to the public. The agenda and invitation are posted.

INSTITUTE DIRECTOR
The Institute Council elects the Managing Director of the Institute (Director) and a deputy from among the members of the Institute Council who are university lecturers and employees.
From 16 April 2026, Prof. Dr Lars Oberhaus will be the Director of the Institute of Music. His deputy is Prof Dr Anna Langenbruch.
Plenary Assembly of the Institute
The Director convenes a General Assembly of the Institute every two years. All members of the Institute are entitled to vote in the plenary assembly; members of the Institute participate in an advisory capacity.
