STATEMENT

My passion for music really begins where boundaries are crossed.

CREDO

I live in a synaesthetic world.
Even as a child, I recognised that sounds and letters carried colours and discovered that other sensory perceptions are also closely interwoven. This gave me an impulse: I wanted to understand the connection between the senses and their systems, this something that runs through all variations like an essence.
Although I was officially trained as a musician, I was always interested in other arts, especially painting.
As a horn player, I naturally approached new music. - What better time to follow the trail of the above-mentioned connection than now? -
I love working with composers. By exchanging ideas, you often go beyond the traditional boundaries of interpretation. The element of "stage" directs a concert directly towards theatre anyway, music can be perceived as language, poetry as music, and concepts such as form, colour, articulation, rhythm etc. can be translated from painting into music (and vice versa)...
It is therefore not uncommon for me to develop a performance in a roundabout way via painting, giving it an actor's grade.
Sometimes, however, music is also created from my paintings, either conceived by myself or by other composers. As an example, I would like to mention the project Robes de Ciment, a suite for solo instrument. The score is presented in the form of a card game with rules, in which the musician develops a personal sound world from his analysis of the printed paintings. However, this process is not a free improvisation. Something between painting and music remains untouched: the "essence" of their connection.
