Jazz and funk, Latin and soul: the University’s Big Band will be offering a colourful musical mix at its concert to mark the end of the summer semester on Friday 8 July.
In the University’s Alte Aula (Haarentor campus, Building A11, Ammerländer Heerstraße 69), the 37-piece band, conducted by Prof. Bernhard Mergner, will perform world-famous original tracks and jazz standards from various eras from 8.30 pm onwards.
The programme features highly virtuosic clarinet solos in the style of Benny Goodman from the swing era, as well as complex compositions by Duke Ellington and Bert Joris, and groovy funk and Latin-style pieces, such as those by the Yellow Jackets. A highlight is the atmospheric and rousing vocal sections, such as a vocal arrangement by the New York Voices.
The concert is being held in co-operation with the Alluvium Jazz Club. Admission costs 8 euros, concessions 5 euros.
