New science blog analyses The present and its perception

How do different scientific disciplines analyse and describe the present? And how do these descriptions influence social reality, or at least our perception of it? A new Oldenburg science blog discusses questions like these.

How do different scientific disciplines analyse and describe the present? And how do these descriptions influence social reality, or at least our perception of it? A new Oldenburg science blog discusses questions like these.

The blog was initiated by the Scientific Centre Genealogy of the Present (WiZeGG), which brings together researchers from several Schools to investigate the cultural forms of social self-problematisation in an interdisciplinary manner. As a virtual forum, the blog is intended to serve as a forum for exchange both among academics and with the public.

Current research results, key publications or exciting conferences - all of this will find its place in the weblog in future. It will also serve to network all scientists whose threads come together at the WiZeGG, including with colleagues from abroad. WiZeGG members will share their activities with the public via photos, audio files of lectures and short reports.

In the "For eyes and ears" section, for example, you will find popular science articles and other "browsable" material. Under "Events", interested parties can gain an insight into workshops and series of lectures or information on current guests of the interdisciplinary research centre.

As blogs - unlike traditional homepages - allow comments on individual contributions, this medium enables a lively exchange between science and the public. And this is expressly desired, as the initiators around the sociologist and centre director Prof. Dr. Thomas Alkemeyer emphasise.

The WiZeGG used a guest visit by the Konstanz literary scholar and Leibniz Prize winner Prof. Dr Albrecht Koschorke on 13 and 14 January as an opportunity to launch the blog. It can be accessed at www.blog.wizegg.uni-oldenburg.de.
