General information:

Every year in July/August, the Nederlandse Taalunie organises the two-week Dutch-language summer course Taalunie Zomercursus Nederlands - taal, cultuur en beroep in Ghent, Belgium.

The summer course is largely financed by the Nederlandse Taalunie, so that the student's own contribution is currently only 200.00 euros - including board and lodging. In addition, a number of full scholarships are available so that lower-income students can take part in the summer course free of charge. This means that only the travel expenses to Ghent and back are ultimately incurred.

The summer course consists of an online preparation module in the home country and the two-week course in Ghent. Participants choose from the following specialisations:

• media en politiek
• literature and culture
• language and literature specialisation
• language and didactics

An extensive programme is offered in the Dutch language area according to the focus. The first week consists of workshops, (pre-)readings and excursions; the second week is dedicated to the preparation, realisation and follow-up of an internship in a Belgian/Dutch company.

Applications for the summer course must be submitted by 1 February. Participation is open to...

• who do not live in the Dutch-speaking area.
• whose mother tongue is not Dutch.
• who are between 18 and 35 years old at the time of the summer course.
• who are studying Dutch as a major or minor subject.
• who can prove at least level B1+ of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
• Master's students are preferred.

The European Union promotes student mobility with scholarships abroad. The amount of the scholarships varies and depends on the number of interested students. For more information, please contact the university's ISO and the subject's Erasmus officer, Carla Broeder.

As part of the German-Belgian and German-Dutch cultural agreements, students/trainee teachers have the opportunity to spend a year as an assistant in a Dutch-speaking country. As an assistant, you are the contact person in a school for questions relating to German (regional studies) and German (as a foreign language). The main task is to be available to teachers and pupils for twelve hours a week as a native speaker. As a rule, you will be well integrated into school life and have the freedom to define your role as an assistant in consultation with the supervising teachers according to your individual inclinations and abilities. There is plenty of time to improve your language skills and gain an insight into everyday life. You will receive a monthly maintenance allowance. Every year, the DAAD provides several one-year scholarships for studying in the Netherlands. The scholarships are awarded to German students and graduates who are pursuing a special study or research project in the Netherlands that would be difficult to realise in German.
