Research strand 2: Gynaecological perspective on the care of endometriosis

Aim and research questions

The primary aim of this sub-project is to understand what shapes the diagnostic and therapeutic actions of gynaecologists when dealing with endometriosis:

- How do gynaecologists experience the management of endometriosis in clinical practice?
What are the diagnostic challenges? How is inconsistent or limited evidence dealt with?

- What beliefs characterise medical decisions?
What experiences and assumptions are incorporated into diagnosis and treatment?

- What linguistic images are used?
How do gynaecologists talk about endometriosis and what ideas about the disease become visible as a result?

Discursive interviews with gynaecologists will be conducted to collect data. The aim is to better understand doctors' experiences, assessments and perspectives on dealing with endometriosis in daily practice.

Various qualitative approaches of empirical social research will be used to analyse the data, including reflexive thematic analysis and reconstructive methods such as systematic metaphor analysis.

The results are to be prepared in such a way that they are accessible to doctors, patients and interested parties from society and politics (in scientific publications as well as in formats prepared for laypersons) and contribute to an improved exchange and handling of endometriosis.

We are inviting 14 gynaecologists to take part in interviews. The interviews will take place online and last about 45-60 minutes. If you would like to share the study with others, you can find a detailed flyer here.

Location: Online
