With AI tools such as ChatGPT, the topic of artificial intelligence (AI) has been part of university teaching for some time now and has since clearly emphasised (existing) problems in the examination context. Nevertheless, the debate on the topic is still in its infancy. This statement therefore aims to shed light on the effects of AI on examinations and highlight problematic areas. The focus is on the use of AI by students for examinations (especially in asynchronous formats) and by teachers in the context of exam preparation and follow-up.
This statement is aimed at universities, teaching staff, examination boards and higher education policy stakeholders involved in the organisation of examination processes. It is not intended to provide definitive regulations, but rather to highlight differentiated room for manoeuvre and contribute to the development of university-wide and subject-specific regulations.
