Master of Arts - Master's degree programme "Sports Science"
The specialist Master’s degree programme in ‘Sports Science’ has been on offer since the 2021/22 winter semester. The degree programme is a further development of the specialist Master’s degree programme in ‘Sport and Lifestyle’ that was previously in place. The new title reflects the nature of sports science as an interdisciplinary field drawing on approaches from the humanities, social sciences, cultural studies and the natural sciences, and is characterised by the newly introduced specialisations ‘Talent in Sport’ and ‘Social Heterogeneity in Sport’.
These specialisations reflect the research focuses of the departments currently involved in the Master’s programme: Sociology and Sociology of Sport, Sport and Movement Science, and Sport and Training. In the future, the Department of Sport and Education is also expected to contribute to the development of the Master’s programme in ‘Sports Science’. The degree programme’s specialisations are unique in Lower Saxony and throughout Germany.
