Analysing, interpreting and presenting history using digital media and research methods. Investigating their history-producing mechanisms (working title)

Digital media and the technologies and methods used to organise, analyse and present them are increasingly shaping the historical practices of the humanities. The term "big data of the past", the use of digital databases and network theories, which has become commonplace in many areas, and the increasing use of machine learning, digital mapping and data modelling attest to this. Analogue knowledge systems and the associated classification and ordering systems are consequently being replaced and new ones are coming into force. However, it is not only the concrete work processes in research that are changing; it is to be expected that the result itself - the historiography - will also change. Under the auspices of the Critical Digital Humanities and with special consideration of visuality, the dissertation project examines the history-producing mechanisms of the new research tools.
