Artificial Intelligence

Nowadays spectrum of artificial intelligence (AI) methods is very diverse. Basically, the AI describes methods with which a computer (or a machine in general) can perform various tasks in a human-like way. Many academical research initiatives as well as endless number of industry applications demonstrated that AI algorithms could be very good in a certain disciplines and sometimes even outperform a human. In other disciplines, however, the same algorithms cannot usually be used. For instance, an object recognition algorithm is not capable of processing natural speech. The current hype around AI is huge, but the topic is not a new once. Research into the development of artificial intelligence has been going on since the 1930s (e.g. Alan Turing - On computable numbers with an application to the Entscheidungsproblem, 1936). However, due to the amount of data available today (big data), the increased computing power (e.g. GPUs, TPUs, etc.) and the progress in the field of algorithms, it could be stayed that next development level of the AI was reached.
