The DFG funded Research Training Group HEARAZ - “Hearable-centered assistance: From sensors to participation” (GRK 2969) offers

9 PhD positions m/f/d
(salary group E13, 100%)

Research Program

The vision of the HEARAZ research training group is the comprehensive inter- and transdisciplinary training of emerging scientists for the efficient development of a new generation of networked technical assistance systems close to the ear (“hearables”) and their integration into everyday life and care practice. Hearables are thus further developed into a mobile and personalised ‘health centre at the ear’. Beyond hearing improvement, the aim is to realise assistance in three areas: perception (P), communication (C) and mobility (M) for wearers through technical and social networking with formal and informal care networks. The aim is to improve opportunities for participation with consideration of health restrictions, enhanced vulnerability, and increasing diversity among the often older clients.

We Offer

At the University of Oldenburg and at the University of Bremen up to 9 positions for doctoral students (TV-L 13 100%) in the three research areas (P), (C) and (M) are available for scientific qualification according to § 2 para. 1 WissZeitVG, starting between November 2024 and April 2025, limited to 36 months. All positions are suitable for part-time employment.

HEARAZ offers access to excellent facilities and laboratories, data and computing infrastructure, attractive workplaces, diverse and responsible tasks, a wide scope of advanced training options, and flexible working arrangements.

All doctoral students are supervised by an interdisciplinary team of at least two highly qualified professors providing their complementary expertise, infrastructure, and networks. Doctoral students are encouraged to develop their skills and networks by visiting HEARAZ partners and world-renowned institutions for extended research stays.
