Hanse Law School

The Hanse Law School (HLS) is an educational project supported by the University of Oldenburg, conducted in close cooperation with the University of Groningen in the Netherlands (and soon with LeHavre in France). The core idea of HLS is to 'think law in a European context.' Offering a bachelor's and a consecutive master's program, it provides a law education aimed at internationally comparable degrees (LL.B. and LL.M.) with a focus on international and comparative legal content. In terms of degrees and content focus, the program differs from a 'traditional' law degree.

In terms of level, however, the HLS program is equivalent to a 'traditional' law degree. The profile of HLS graduates is geared toward the international job market and companies with international business operations. The LL.B. and LL.M. degrees do not provide (immediate) access to the state examination or the legal clerkship, which lead to legal professions in the civil service within the German judiciary. However, students have the option to switch to this track.
