Research network 4N
Nordwest Niedersachsen Nachhaltig Neu -Transformation and structural change in the rural areas of north-west Germany: Real-world laboratories in marshes, moors, geest and sea(h)r
Project description
The research network 4N aims to initiate, accompany and evaluate social, technological and ecological transformations in the regional framework of north-west Lower Saxony towards future-oriented, sustainable living contexts in order to respond to the current structural change. To this end, technological possibilities (digitalisation), agricultural developments, economic fields of activity such as tourism and logistics as well as topics of education and services of general interest in health and care are examined against their respective socio-cultural background and social organisation (governance). The concept of regional transformation processes relates to the north-west of Lower Saxony and inspires sustainable developments across disciplines.
The working group is integrated into the research network via sub-project 3 Spatial Planning and Regional Development. Against the background of transformative processes (including demographic change, digitalisation, climate adaptation, climate and environmental protection), this deals with the need for adaptation and change in spatial planning and regional development. The aim is to investigate the future importance of overall spatial planning, sectoral planning, regional policy funding instruments, high-resolution spatial and temporal geodata and the interaction of formal and informal instruments. Based on a research-analytical investigation of existing structures, practical and everyday approaches and solutions will be developed in a discursive and co-productive process with local and regional stakeholders.
