Curriculum vitae

Ingo Mose studied geography, German studies and politics as part of the single-phase teacher training programme for secondary school teachers at the universities of Osnabrück, Vechta and Oldenburg. He then worked as a research assistant in the subject of geography at the University of Osnabrück, Vechta site, from 1986-92, where he completed his doctorate in 1987 with a thesis on soft tourism in the Hohe Tauern National Park; this was followed in 1993 by his habilitation on independent regional development as a development perspective for peripheral rural areas. In the following years, various teaching assignments and guest lectureships took him to Keele University, Great Britain, Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences and the University of Bremen, among others. From 1993-95, he headed a European TEMPUS project on cultural and regional studies as a basis for intercultural understanding in co-operation with the universities of Bratislava, Padova and Regensburg.

From 1996-98, Ingo Mose was a visiting professor at the Institute for Geography and Regional Research at the University of Vienna, before accepting a professorship for regional sciences at the Institute for Environmental Sciences at the University of Vechta, where he served as deputy director for several years. He also held the position of Senate Representative for the International Office in Vechta for several years.

Since 1 October 2005, he has been Professor of Regional Sciences and Head of the Applied Geography and Environmental Planning working group at the Institute of Biology and Environmental Sciences at the University of Oldenburg. Ingo Mose's research focus includes European territorial protection policy, the development of rural areas in Europe, forms of regional governance and the spatial implications of the sustainability transformation. He also has a particular interest in qualitative methods of regional research. His regional work focuses on north-west Germany, especially the Wadden Sea region, the Alpine region, the British Isles and Scandinavia.

Ingo Mose has been a member of the German Academy for Regional Studies for several years and is the spokesperson for the Rural Areas Working Group of the German Geographical Society. From 2012 to 2015, Ingo Mose held the Jean Monnet Chair "Europeanisation and Sustainable Spatial Development"; he then served as coordinator of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence "Europeanizing Coastal Regions(EuCoRe)" at the University of Oldenburg from 2015 to 2018.
