Industrial information systems

Contents and goals

In general, the Master's degree programme in Business Information Systems teaches approaches that enable you to analyse, design, implement and use information systems in organisations and across organisations.

In the specialisation "Industrial Information Systems (IIS)", the focus is on the internal and inter-company optimisation and design of information, goods and money flows. Planning and control procedures play a role here as well as the systems for the technical realisation of production and logistics. From a management perspective, the appropriate preparation, summarisation and presentation of this information is of course also important.
In-depth knowledge of the structure, development and utilisation of information systems in industrial production, administration and logistics is therefore taught and deepened in practical events.

Target group

The programme is therefore aimed at students who

  • want to gain application-oriented in-depth insights into the design and use of systems in industrial production, administration and logistics
  • are conceptually and algorithmically interested in the planning and design tasks in industrial information systems and want to help shape and develop them
  • want to familiarise themselves with the hardware and software structure and use of systems in industrial companies.

Study requirements

Students specialising in IIS must take Master's modules totalling 30 CP from the area of specialisation. The following modules are compulsory:

  • inf652 Production-oriented Information Systems
  • inf657 Product Engineering
  • inf650 Transport Systems

In addition, two modules should be selected from the following (non-exhaustive) list of pure Master's modules. An elective module consists of one module (6 ECTS) or, as an equivalent, two seminars (3 ECTS each):

  • inf537 Intelligent Systems
  • inf008 Information Systems II
  • inf109 Information Systems III
  • inf653 ERP Technology
  • inf005 Software Engineering II
  • inf604 Business Intelligence I
  • inf651 Operational Environmental Information Systems
  • inf510 Energy Information Systems
  • wir828 Production and Supply Chain Management
  • wir902 International Sustainability Management.

In addition, the topic of the project group attended and the topic of the final thesis must be related to the IIS specialisation.
