FAQ: Surveys for university institutions
FAQ: Surveys for university institutions
1. which surveys are supported by the internal evaluation?
With its surveys, Internal Evaluation supports the university's institutions in the area of teaching and learning. For example, the courses offered by University Didactics, the Graduate Academy or Personnel and Organisational Development can be evaluated in order to determine the suitability of content and framework conditions or to identify further needs. Data is also collected on programmes and modules, for example for human medicine, the orientation year and many others. An overview of surveys as services can be found here.
However, surveys conducted by individual students as part of their credits cannot be supported. The University provides licences for the Limesurvey software via IT services for this purpose .
2. what information does the internal evaluation need for a survey?
Due to the large scope of ongoing surveys, a lead time of four weeks should be planned from the draft questionnaire to the start of the survey.
The university institution wishing to carry out a survey should send its draft questionnaire, which should be as advanced as possible, to Internal Evaluation in Word or PDF format, together with information on the form (online or paper-based) and the period in which the survey is to be conducted. If guidance is required when creating the questions, Internal Evaluation can provide support.
For the evaluation of several events, it makes sense to send the information bundled in an Excel spreadsheet to Internal Evaluation. A template can be found here. The following information should be provided: Title of the event + number if applicable, teacher, type of questionnaire (if several catalogues are used, for example for short or multi-day events), survey form (online/paper-based), language (if German or English is possible) and the start and end date of the survey.
3. how does the evaluation work?
Once Internal Evaluation has implemented the catalogue of questions in consultation with the respective institution, the survey can be conducted either in paper form or online. For the former variant, the evaluating institution receives a PDF print template of the questionnaire; in the case of a digital survey, the institution can send a link to its target group within a selected period of time and ask them to complete the evaluation.
In the case of event surveys, several different question catalogues can also be used, for example for short or multi-day events or depending on the thematic focus.
After the end of the survey, Internal Evaluation analyses the responses received and makes the results available to the institution.
4. in what form will the results be made available?
After the end of the survey period, Internal Evaluation analyses the data received and creates frequency charts containing relevant key figures such as percentage distributions, mean values and standard deviations. Specific analyses are possible on request. If the transfer of raw data is desired, this must be checked on a case-by-case basis with regard to data protection.
When evaluating several events, analyses are created for each individual event as well as overview analyses at an agreed frequency per year or half-year.
