Business Intelligence Cloud

The demands on business intelligence in general and reporting in particular have been increasing significantly for years - driven by globalisation, advancing digitalisation, intensifying competition and financial and economic crises, among other things. In future, business intelligence (BI) applications should be proactive, highly flexible, integrated reporting systems with comprehensive self-service functions that can handle the increasing volumes of data. Some features of the cloud are revolutionary in this respect, making BI in the cloud a promising trend topic.

There is still no adequate standardisation in the area of the "BI cloud", and architectural questions are still unanswered. The compatibility, architecture and functionality of existing, initial products in this area require further development. The lack of architectural standards as well as the lack of experience in dealing with BI cloud services and the novelty of the topic leads to scepticism and thus to a lack of use. In our research project, we are therefore designing a description model and a reference architecture for BI in the cloud.
