FAQ
I am currently writing my Bachelor's thesis and will probably pass my B.Eng. Marine Engineering or Mechatronics with a specialisation in Marine Engineering (Jade University) with 210 CP. Do I fulfil the admission requirements for the M.Sc. in Marine Sensor Technology?
Yes, during the degree programme you should be able to demonstrate knowledge of mathematics, electrical engineering and at least one other marine engineering subject (materials/design/manufacturing, embedded systems, Computing Science, measurement and control technology) by passing examinations. To make the transition from the UAS to university easier, the module "Scientific Practice" has been incorporated into the curriculum.
I am currently writing my Bachelor's thesis and will probably pass my B.Sc. in Environmental Sciences (University of Oldenburg) with 180 CP. Do I fulfil the admission requirements for the M.Sc. in Marine Sensory Science?
No. To be admitted to this Master's programme, you need 210 CP instead of 180 CP. The missing 30 CP can be made up in a bridging semester, which takes place before the Master's programme.
What is the bridging semester all about?
In the bridging semester, applicants can acquire the competences in marine engineering that they have not yet acquired. Applicants with a Bachelor's degree with less than seven semesters (210 ECTS) can acquire the required credit points in the bridging semester. The admissions committee determines the modules to be taken in the bridge semester for each applicant individually and depending on the competences acquired to date. The modules to be taken usually take place at the University of Oldenburg or the Jade University of Applied Sciences in Wilhelmshaven.
Can I gain a lot of practical experience during the degree programme?
Yes, for example, the module "Marine Field Research" includes an excursion on board a research boat or ship. The ICBM has the three research boats "Zephyr", "Otzum" and "Navicula" as well as the permanent measuring station in the Seegatt between the East Frisian islands of Langeoog and Spiekeroog. With a bit of luck, there is the opportunity to take part in excursions on the research vessel "Sonne". You can find out more about our research platforms and ships here.
