Focus on heart health

Our heart works 24 hours a day without a break. It supplies our organs with oxygen and nutrients, thereby ensuring our survival. It is therefore the ‘engine of life’ and should be well protected. However, an unhealthy lifestyle – characterised by a lack of exercise, poor diet, smoking or high levels of stress – often leads to initial health problems, which can develop into chronic conditions, heart attacks or strokes. Cardiovascular diseases have long been the leading cause of death in Germany.

As part of the ‘Heart Health’ focus period from March to June 2026, all staff in research and administration had the opportunity to take part in lectures, workshops, exercise sessions and health checks. An overview of the events can be found in PEOE.IP (Events 504–535).
